The unusual environment and an hour of classical music concert were once again stimulant, instead of an obstacle, for many visitors to head for the Vrmac mountain and together with the performers convert it into the fantastic open-air stage. Concert held in the autumn afternoon, at the mountain top of Sveti Vid (St. Vitus) called “Music at the Mountain Top”, attracted an audience of over 80 people. This was the latest in a series of concerts under the “Landscape Days” campaign and it proved that the space of Vrmac has the potential to be used for cultural purposes as an exceptional cultural landscape.
Throughout the “Landscape Days”, part of the project “Heritage- Driver of Development”, the objective is to, by different events which offer a unique experience of Vrmac space through colors, sounds, smells and tastes, bring a greater number of citizens and visitors to the interior space of the peninsula. That way, at the field, they can together realize all the ways this unique landscape can be valorized, while at the same time, without any disruption of its natural and cultural heritage as well as landscape as comprehensive category of human activity in space over time. With the concert “Music at Mountain Top” project partners have joined the campaign “European Land Stewardship Week,” which takes place in countries throughout Europe from September 26th to October 5th 2014.
European campaign for the preservation of the land is held for the second time and it promotes various events that will be, in the specified period, held in many European countries in order to increase awareness about the importance of caring about our planet and valuable natural and cultural resources at its disposal.
The term “Land Stewardship”, which in our country still lacks adequate translation, implies a set of strategies and methods aimed at including the owners of the land and all those who use it, in order to jointly contribute to the conservation and appropriate use of natural resources and cultural landscape.
The church at the hill top Sv. Vid (St. Vidus) dates from the 9th century, and is located in one of the furthest peaks at Tivat side of Vrmac. From its plateau there is a wonderful view at the Bay of Tivat, Lustica, and the slopes of the hill Vrmac. Concert in the late afternoon, Bruna Matijevic flute, Nevile Klakor violin and Goran Sevaljevic accordion, music pieces of Mozart, Pizzolla, Debussy, sun that warms while fading out, and the wind-god Aeolus, who, as per the order, suppressed the strong wind, made the atmosphere complete. As usual, faithful mates from PK “Vjeverice” (HC Squirrels), arranged that their Sunday hike tour at Vrmac ends up by coming to the concert “Music at Mountain Top”. That way they shared autumn afternoon with those who came at St. Vitus by their own or by organized transport from Tivat.
At the end of the concert everyone wondered what are forthcoming events. As part of the “Landscape Days” there is another event planned for this fall – gastronomic event – which will try to draw public attention at the value and potential of Vrmac through the tastes this peninsula hides.
The aim the project “Heritage – Driver of Development” is contribution to establishing cooperation between institutions in charge of natural and cultural heritage protection through implementing joint programs, education, know-how transfer and awareness raising activities.
